CRITICAL THEORY: A CRITIQUE OF POLICE ADMINISTRATION
Security is a basic social need. The police administration is the basic form of social security. The Police administration-from the lowest ranking officials to the ranked officers , has always been an important institution in the social world.
Historically and most importantly in the present world , the police administration suffers from the problems created by a lack identity and value system. The administration has always been a tool for oppression, from which escape is virtually impossible.Police administration, as any other institution in a capitalist society, helps in the promotion and propagation of rational thinking in society. It has always helped in the consolidation of widely held social beliefs against the " marginalized population". While perpetuating mass culture the police administration has also indulged in crucifying the 'deviant' behavior which goes against the proponents of culture. This has created a system of fear culture.
Mass media also helps in building up the rational image of the police administration. Media achieves this by providing a credible space for the police in popular culture. Police administration has helped in the crystalization of thought and behavior in a one dimensional orientation.
A counter argument can also be made.In this current post industrial society the police has to address a myriad of problems, of both identity and culture. The influence of a liberal attitude in people's world view and individual based media consumption, the actions of the police are under constant scrutiny.
Every human relation in the final sense comes down to a dichotomy of choice and conflict and , borrowing the word of Shakespeare , the question will always be , "to be or not to be "
very true, crime can never be abetted by fear culture
